A place to call home

After the Korean war, housing was a main priority. A person's home in the Republic of Korea is based on family connections and how important they are to the regime. Workers tend to live in apartments as opposed to houses. Housing projects are supported almost solely by the government.

Traditional homes:  한옥집 (hanok jib)

Hanok are traditional houses in Korea (as a whole). They were often built with availble earthen materials such as wood and stone.

Farm houses

Most of the people live on farms or in fishing villiages. A typical community outside of large cities looks much like the photo to the left.

Apartments in Pyongyang

Living in Pyongyang is an honor, and only the most fervent supporters are given persmission to reside in the capital city.

All homes have photos of the dear leaders.
